Jobbity Job in Madison

Is anyone still in the Madison area and looking for a job? One of the guys who works here at the UW preparing stuff for digitization is leaving at the end of July, and the boss said to point people her way if I knew anyone. Let me know if you're interested! (It's Leia, btw; I think my nom du guerre threw some people off. And I doubt that I spelled "nom du guerre" correctly....)

Recycled underwear=more library jobs!

Here's a bit on the relationship between underwear and literacy, which of course translates into a link between underwear and librarians. Why didn't the NYT report that in the coolness article?

And...

Who else just got a job?!?!?

If I don't get a job soon...

I'll seriously consider becoming some coddled celebrity's slave.

So if I don't get a job soon....

Maybe I'll start a business selling t-shirts that advertise one's sexual preferences--it's kind of like cataloging, right?

Oh, crap, nevermind.

Not as good as audiologists...

According to this article on promising career options, librarians are pretty cool. However, we ARE number seven (out of seven) on the list... obviously because we make nowhere near a $200K salary! Plus, we don't have the cool Bill Clinton connection that audiologists do.

(Cynically, I wonder how much the article author was offered--bribes, kickbacks, what have you--by these professions' professional organizations in return for saying that they're cool?)

maybe this is a good way to pay off the student loans

Some dude in Australia sold his identity for 7500 australian dollars! Not really his legal identity, more like his persona. The winning bid gets his haircut, his friends, lessons in all of his skills and hobbies, six jokes, and over 300 cds, to name just a few highlights. Probably a whole lot less painful than selling a kidney on the black market.

Gorilla Librarian

In keeping with the previous monkey-themed post... for anyone who didn't see this fun link from American Libraries Direct.

Hope none of us has to go to these lengths during the job hunt!
