Who needs a rice cooker in the library?
The following pointless but somewhat amusing dialog occurred at work this evening.
Student worker: Did you see that?
Me: What?
Student worker: A girl just came through here carrying a rice cooker.
Me: I didn't see her.
Patron: I didn't either.
Me: Maybe you imagined it.
Student worker: I didn't imagine it! She was real!
Me: Okay, I believe you. I mean, that would be about the world's most boring delusion.
I still don't know why anyone would have a rice cooker in the library, though.

Perhaps she was trying to find a repair manual and wanted to make sure she had the model number right? Or somebody was having a potluck and forgot to invite you? Or... she just borrowed it from a friend but needed to pick up a book on her way home, so she had to carry it through the library.
However, it's definitely more fun to think of somebody sitting at a study table with their rice cooker plugged in instead of a laptop, just waiting for a steaming hot bowl of rice for a snack during her study break!
Back when I worked at Edgewood, a group of jocks (yup, I'm still using that terminology) came in with a big inflatable dolphin, which they set up at an OPAC. Then of course they left it there and I had to deflate it so it would fit in the lost and found. It's probably still there actually...
