Article on ALA convention in New Orleans

I found this article online and thought it was pretty nice (except for the box blocking the text at the top that I couldn't make go away).

What a great column! I love the bit about the drunken librarians running around late at night in the hotel.

(And I didn't have any problem with anything blocking the text, so maybe it sorted itself out!)

a group of drunken librarians raced up and down the hallways in a juvenile thrall in the wee hours of the morning, raising a holy ruckus

Awww, was that a shout out to Annie and Katie? That was a great column. I am ignoring the comment about relaxed-fit jeans.

I am proud to say that there were very few instances of mom jeans at this conference. Also missing from the weekend's collection were cat adorned attire, coordinating earing, necklace, pin sets and most library humor related tee shirts. Though not to fret, librarians have not completely lost their identity as NOLA has never seen as many pairs of sensible shoes as it did last weekend.

I'd estimate that around 75% of the "manbrarians" (new term I coined for male librarians) did have beards, though. Some had enough beard for two manbrarians. This aligned nicely with my predictions on the facial hair front, and earned me the most points in the librarian fashion-spotting game that Annie, Katie, and I were playing.

Astoundingly, there were vanishingly few bun-wearing librarians in attendance. And what with the heat and humidity, it would have been a sensible style choice. I think modern librarians may be too self-conscious to wear buns.

If only the librarians had truly been wearing relaxed fit jeans, but they were too fashion saavy and my point-total suffered.

My favorite part of the article (I mean other than the jeans comment) was: Drunken dictionary salesmen rule!

Amen brother. Amen
