Movie Chat

Omigod, y'all! It's almost Oscar® time. Let's talk movies!

Nate and I went and saw The Last King of Scotland last night, and it was very good, though I couldn't get over that I was watching the Scottish Edward Norton. I was happy to see Forest Whitaker up for best actor, too!

I liked Little Miss Sunshine and I really liked Stranger Than Fiction, which I'm sad to see is not on here, but I think I'm a sucker for films about writing. The Prestige was pretty sweet, too, but as Katie C. and I discussed, I don't know if I can separate the movie from the Christian Bale. And I'd make a special Oscar® just for the deliciousness of Daniel Craig (Most Edible Male Actor), but unfortunately these are not my decisions to make.

What were your favorite films last year? Have you filled out your Oscar® ballot yet? (That's a PDF, so beware.) Most importantly, who will wear the worst dress on the red carpet? Who will look absolutely smashing? Who will forget their undies and horrify us all?

I liked Little Miss Sunshine, but was surprised to see it nominated for Best Picture. Not that it wasn't a good movie, but it's not the kind of movie that usually gets nominated for that award.

I haven't seen The Last King of Scotland yet, but I intend to, because Idi Amin was my dictator for the infamous Dead Dictator project. (He's buried in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, if anyone cares.)

Annie and I went to see The Queen the other night and I thought (surprisingly) meh . I mean, Helen Mirren was stunning (obviously) and she had a lovely tromping-through-the-heather stride, but I didn't love it nearly as much as other people prepared me to.

Mostly, it's just important to me that Babel not win for anything. I've not seen it, but as many of you have already heard me rant, I have no more patience for these seperate-storylines-all-connected-through-misery movies a la amores perros and 21 grams.

I'm interested, but I'm doing a doit workshop from 5-7 and have to work at the library all afternoon. Plus I told Clay I'd edit an essay for him. Why he asked me I have no idea since my grasp of the English language is clearly tenuous at best...All that to say that I'm jealous of you for going but I don't think I can actually go.
